Cattle Gain Faster With Treated Silage
Experiments at the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station show heifers fed treated corn silage gained 11 percent faster than those on untreated silage, while steers fed high moisture ground ear corn with lime and urea gained 14 percent faster. Researchers say higher organic acid content boosts gains, cutting feed cost per 100 pounds. Lime and urea were mixed into silage by sprinkling on loaded wagons and blending as it was blown into the silo.
