Clare city council passed Ordinance No. 149 in a special session addressing water charges. The plan sets minimum taps at 6.00 per year and meter rates by tier with due dates and penalties, effective immediately for 1935.
The Clare Study Club met April 30 at Mrs Pearl Sanford's home. Mrs Hannah Vowles gave a thoughtful review of Susan Ertz's The Proselyte about Mormon pioneers. The discussion followed with vocal numbers by Junior high girls and a luncheon hosted by Mrs Sanford. Members note Harrison meeting May 14 and Mother's Day May 21.
An interview with Pete L. E. Davy explains the new United States Savings Bonds offered through the Post Office Department. Denominations include 25 50 100 5000 and 1000 dollars with a ten year maturity and current price around 18.75 for the 25 dollar bond.
The Augmented Board on April 23 approved Thatcher-Sias aid installments for 1925 totaling 1,501,286, bringing the year’s cumulative distribution to 5,713,821. Districts receive monthly shares with a two thirds cap, while un-applied districts get summer allocations. County distributions include Clare 340 and Saginaw 1,759 among others.
An unusual ensemble recital by Helen Lucile Doherty’s piano pupils is set for next Monday evening at the Hotel Doherty. The program features duos trios duets and quartettes for one and two pianos with soprano Miss Jane Davy assisting. The public is invited to attend.
Notice to library patrons that the library will be closed for decorations and reopen on Saturday May 11. Ada Hochstetler acting librarian announces the partial closure and reopening date.
Fort Myers hosted a major gathering for the Taft Memorial Highway project extending from Northern Michigan to Fort Myers. Michigan and several states have shown support with federal takeover under consideration. $15,000 has been spent so far and Clare may contribute. Mr. Holder praised W. L Park for his Fort Myers contributions.
Zenobia Chapter No 129 of the Order of the Eastern Stars visited Mt Pleasant for Past Matrons and Past Patrons Night. The Mt Pleasant chapter initiated two candidates with Zenobia officers performing the initiation led by Worthy Matron Anna Northon and Worthy Patron Alexander E E Wytie. Other Zenobia members and visiting officers attended including Mary D Nelson.

Dr. B V Thiehoff discusses maintaining local health officers across three counties. The Michigan Department of Health intends not to replace these officers, given the scope of quarantines placards reports and contact tracing across towns. The article highlights scarlet fever as an example of cross district management.
The Central Michigan Funeral Directors Association held a regular meeting at Clark Thursday evening April 25 with about thirty members and guests. A banquet at Thurston Funeral Home followed a Masonic Hall dinner prepared by Zenobia chapter Order Eastern Stars. Doris Gerow sang two solos as Rev. Albert Dawe gave a short talk. The ladies attended a theatre party after, while the men continued with a business session at the Thurston home. No meeting is scheduled next month due to the state association in Grand Rapids May 14 to 16.
Mrs Anna J Carmichael 58 of Owosso wife of Daniel Carmichael a veteran Ann Arbor railroad engineer died of apoplexy Wednesday night while visiting near Clare. She and her husband and daughter planned a week with the Cunninghams. Funeral set for Saturday at 2:30 at First Congregational Owosso with Rev Rex Oman officiating. Interment Oak Hill cemetery.

Fire thought to have started near a chimney in the kitchen destroyed the home of Peter Flood, three miles south and half a mile west of Clare. About $3000 loss. Mr Flood and his daughter Marie burned while attempting to fight the blaze. Both treated at Clare County General Hospital. insurance partially covers damage. The rural fire truck fought the blaze as a south wind spread embers, sparing barns and a tool shed.
Plans for an extension course in Health Education for qualified teachers in the district list Alice Evans of the Children's Fund of Michigan as director. Credit may be earned at several Michigan colleges with fees ranging from 5 to 18.75 dollars. The six month to year long program runs Sept 16 1938 to June 1 1936 with admission requirements and a 15-student limit.
Mrs Harolld Fleming hosted the Clare Good Literature Club meeting on April 23. Prof. Larzalere of Central State Teachers College spoke of his Florida winter trip, noting paved roads, Florida’s citrus, and comparisons with Michigan. He recalled early Florida settlements, and discussed St Petersburg and Miami, with questions and refreshments served by a committee.
On Easter Sunday April 21 1935 Miss Donnamae Haring of Clare wed Harold E Yagier of Coleman. Attendants were Hazel and Donald Haring, bride’s sister and brother. Ceremony by Wider Burt S Turner at his Midland home. Bride daughter of Mr Mrs George Haring of Clare. They will reside in Coleman.
Pupils of Miss Frances Anderson presented a charming Monday evening recital guided by Miss Martha Ann Parent. The journey through Music Land featured Brass Tuba, Fairyland, farm donkey ride, beach scenes, gypsy tunes, and Pianoville lullabies. Participants included Virginia Foss, Barbara Caple, Roberta McKnight, Marjorie Loomis, Romayne Perry, Yillian Lohrke, and Donald Woolston on violin.
William Richmond, 85, of Arthur township, died April 25 1985 after his car overturned on the Gladwin road curve. The accident occurred about 8:30 p.m. while he was returning from a road job and fishing near Houghton Lake. Survived by wife Mildred Joslin and two children Norris and Helen, he was married December 22 1932. Funeral services were held at Arthur Hall with Rev. Chas Kleithardt officiating.
A large crowd attended a high school gymnasium demonstration on Wednesday April 24 directed by Miss Ruth Allyn and Mr Leo Brown. They showcased early grade activities and progressive group calisthenics for older students highlighting athletic development and cooperative games.
