Fred Miller son of Mr and Mrs Fred Miller Sr of Clare received the 1955 Kiwanis athletic award at a March 23 banquet in the Hotel Doherty. The honor honors athletics scholarship and activities with emphasis on the athletic record. Miller played football baseball and basketball and held student council presidency while active in clubs and dramatics.

Sixty two high schools entered the Class A B and C invitational indoor track meets at Central Michigan College April 1 and 2 announced by Carlton J Mefort. Clare Chamber of Commerce advances a tourist information center at the intersection of US 10 and US 27 in the downtown area. The project will be financed without higher dues, and a full time secretary will staff the booth during peak summer traffic. US-27 Group Gaining Ground in State Highway Drive
The US-27 Highway Association, formed earlier this year to improve US-27 to the Straits and promote travel, advances its effort in Lansing. Karl Morgan of Clare Manufacturing is vice president. Lamb Pool Program Outlined by Central Michigan Raisers
A group of Central Michigan sheep producers met at St. Louis Auction Yards and proposed a 2 Lamb Pool to run eight times from July 28 to December 22. Lambs on these days would be graded into high quality lots and sold as a full consignment to a buyer at the highest market price. The Pool aims to educate, organize seven counties, provide a marketing pool, and aid farmers in acquiring breeding and feeding stock. A 35 cent per head charge will be collected, with 2 cents to the Lamb Pool Organization.
