Potassium iodide stops hairless pig litters in Wis. farm study
In Washburn County Wisconsin, Baker Land Company farrowings in 1923 produced 36 litters of all hairless pigs, many dying. After starting potassium iodide to pregnant sows, 36 sows in 1924 averaged 6 1/2 pigs per litter, all normal. The Spotted Poland China Digest notes this as clear evidence that iodine supplementation prevents goiter‑related hairlessness in pigs and other livestock.
