Shortage of Funds Delays U S 27 Paving Contract
Dear Mr. Aldrich the Clare Sentinel report of January 29 1932 on paving U S 27 between Clare and Harrison is reviewed by the Department. Due to winter unemployment funds for 1932 are insufficient to pave the unpaved portion this season. About 11 million dollars were used in the program leaving roughly 3 million for the rest of 1932. Much grading has been completed and surfacing can only be funded on graded sections, with 425 miles graded and only 150 miles likely to be surfaced this year. The Department will place surfacing where funds allow and hopes to contract the paving when funds become available. C M Ziegler Deputy State Highway Commissioner.
