The Methodist Auxiliary held its annual Birthday luncheon on Wednesday March 4 at 1 30 pm in Mrs Anna Olson Prompttly's spacious home. Twenty three members and guests enjoyed spring floral centerpieces and a luncheon. The program featured a cross collection for Easter breakfast and a patriotic play review Valley Forge. Young performers including Donald Holbrook Carol Jean Hachmuth and Evelyn Olson energized the event with songs poems and a toe dance. A note from Mrs C S Derby of Lapeer was read and the group planned to meet March 18 with Mrs Mabel Mulder.

Promoter of Bertha Lake Resort Dies in Flint
William F. Rube aged 75 longtime Clare County resident died at his son Arthur's home in Flint on February 27 after a lingering illness. The body was brought home for services at St. John's Lutheran Church and burial in Surrey Cemetery. An obituary will appear next week.

Three Poultry Meetings Set for March in Three Town Halls

A J Peters 55 longtime piano tuner died Wednesday in Smith Memorial hospital Alma. Funeral services were held March 1 at Cran Dell funeral home St. Louis for Peters who had lived near St. Louis and Mt. Pleasant since youth. He was blind since age 19 and had suffered from diabetes. survived by widow and five sons.

Plans to Abolish County Road System in Michigan
The Michigan State Highway Department completed groundwork to abolish township roads by April 1. A recertification of township road mileage shows 62,200,495 miles to be taken over by counties, with $4,000,000 yearly apportionments under the McNitt act. Nash Farm Fire Leaves Livestock Lost in East Clare
The O W Nash home and barn at the city east limits burned last Friday night as the fire spread rapidly. A cow and 25 chickens were killed along with two calves and various tools and machinery, totaling about $1,000 in losses. New State Police Post Erected at Houghton Lake
The Michigan State Police announce a new post in District 7 at the southwest end of Houghton Lake on M-55. Built with WPA funds totaling 20102.20, the 41 by 72 foot facility will house four offices a seven car garage and space for twelve officers. It includes a 5000 watt transmitter for a northern Lower Peninsula broadcasting station on thirteen acres recently purchased. Architect Adramn N Langins designed fire resistant brick and Indiana Buff limestone construction with precast joists and cement floors. The post aims to cover the region and curb bandit activity in the area.

Snowstorm Triggers Multiple On Road Crashes Near Clare
During a blinding snowfall on US-27 near Clare two cars driven by Roy Thayer of Vernon and Roger E. Cain of the city collided head on. Thayer sustained facial injuries while Cain was uninjured. Dorothy Oman in the Cain car fractured her jaw and lost teeth. Others involved include Vern Wernert of Lansing with an out of control crash, Elmer and Mrs. Smith with a sleigh collision, and Max P. Smith with Dewey Allen in a separate two-car wreck on McEwan Street.
