Retirement of State Supreme Court Justice Souris Opens Seat
The retirement of Justice Theodore Souris on July 1 leaves the Michigan Supreme Court with a technical Republican majority for the first time since 1955. Souris, a liberal vote and prolific author, helped shape key one person one vote rulings and landmark county board decisions.

Disastrous Wagon Runaway In Herrick 1908
In June 1908 a runaway mule team driven by E L Slocum frightened at Herrick caused damage after circling Vande warker store and colliding with L E McIntosh's rig. McIntosh’s rig wrecked while Slocum's wagon unloaded at a cheese factory. Senator Doherty attended the Chicago convention.
