David R. Johnston Dies at Shelby Pioneer and Mason Remembered
David R Johnston, born February 21, 1844 in Ontario, died in Shelby on June 19 after a brief illness. He lived in Clare County since 1871, was a longtime Baptist church member and a Mason with Lodge 404. Survived by son John Johnston, daughter Mrs S H Hampton, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral held at Mrs I B Hamptons home with burial at Cherry Grove Cemetery.

Wm J Bauder died at his son Howard’s Alma home June 13 after months of illness. Born September 15 1840 at Oak Hills Ontario he joined the Canadian Methodist Church in 1870. He and Clarissa Cooper wed August 7 1866 and had twelve children. Survived by eight children one brother and one sister. many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral at Clare Methodist Church with Rev Lohnes. interment Cherry Grove. The family hosted dinner at Dorothy Sweet’s home for thirty three mourners.
