County to Hold July Zoning Meetings Across Clare Townships

Michigan flag sent to Clare GI in Vietnam

Red Cross Auction Set by Clare County Chapter

The Clare County chapter of the American Red Cross will hold an auction at the Mid Michigan Community College parking lot on Saturday July 3 starting at 2:30 p.m. Frank Wixson of Clare is auctioneer. Local businessmen from Harrison Farwell Clare Meredith Dodge Lake and others donate items to raise funds for Red Cross services in Clare County.

Youth drowns while skindiving at Cranberry Lake

Clare County reports its first drowning of the season as 24 year old James Phillip Nyeste of Wyandotte drowns during a Friday night skindiving trip with three companions at Cranberry Lake. Witnesses described him surfacing with gear partly removed and later disappearing beneath the water. He was recovered at 8 45 p m and pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner D R Gershon.

Sgt Haskins Leaves Clare County Sheriff Department

Sergeant Howard Haskin resigns from the Clare County Sheriff Department reducing already thin manpower. He returns to area trash pickup service and will work part time until a replacement is hired. A new state regulation requires six weeks training at the Michigan law enforcement school before patrol duties.
