Clare County to distribute Chlordane for grasshopper battle

Clare County farmers will receive free Chlordane insecticide as the board of supervisors approves funding in April. The product, a wetable powder, will be distributed by L H Marsh Grain Co and Harrison Elevator. Initial use calls for about 2 pounds per acre, with later needs around 2.4 pounds per acre as hoppers grow. Spraying or mixing with moist bran provides effective bait, and protection is improved by treating areas between crops and hopper breeding grounds.
