Michigan State College researchers report 300 percent more farmers used grass silage in 1949 than 1948 across nine central counties. Feeding grain on pasture boosts dairy cow production says MSU expert
Bob Lewis of Michigan State College Dairy Department argues against penny wise feeding. Even with good pasture cows may need grain to maintain 10 to 20 pounds of milk daily. He favors corn and oats as a palatable, economical grain mix over high protein concentrates.
