Old Age Assistance Law Expands Help for Michigan Aged
The Michigan legislature and Governor Fitzgerald enacted an Old Age Assistance Law to aid residents unable to self support. Assistance begins July 1 1936 with certificates issued to eligible seniors age seventy or older after January 1 1940, or sixty five later. U.S. citizens and Michigan residents only.

Health classes begin at Herrick Church series starts
The Herrick church in Isabella County is one of several sites for Michigan Department of Health women’s health classes. Six Monday meetings begin next week on June 17 at 3 30 pm with Dr Ida M Alexander speaking on anatomy physiology hygiene nutrition and food prep and disease prevention. Women and girls over 16 are urged to attend and participate.

Burial for Mrs Annie McDonald Held at Cherry Grove
The body of Mrs. Annie McDonald was brought to her West Fifth Street home for services led by Rev. George Stanford, with interment at Cherry Grove. Died June 6 in Lansing at 71. A Clare resident and Zenobia chapter member, she leaves daughters Mrs. Sweet and Mrs. Braman, a sister in law, Colon McDonald, a son and his wife, and five grandchildren. Many Clare residents attended. Floral tributes reflected high esteem.

Beloved Sheridan Pioneer Mary Ann Hutchinson Passes at 82
Mary Ann Hutchinson died at her Sheridan township home on June 3 1935 aged 82. Born January 9 1853 in Guelph Canada she moved with family to Waterloo Elmira and Brown City before settling in Clare county. She and Thomas W Hutchinson married August 28 1881 and farmed before retiring to a stone bungalow beside the old house. A longtime Sunday School worker and Church of God member she left sisters J J Erb Phoebe Rosenberger and Joanna Blackmore and a nephew Edmond Hutchinson among others. Funeral was held at Hagle church June 7 with Rev. M R Hendrich officiating. Interment followed.

Bear Trap Puts 260 Pound Culprit Down North Of Fowler
For weeks farmers north of the Fowler ranch in Arthur township faced raids by a nightly bear. Conservation Officer C. Hildebrandt set a trap and last Saturday a 260 pound bear was found caught and killed. The bear had killed four sheep in prior raids.

Clare firemen saved a farm home and three large barns near Clare after a chimney started a attic blaze. Neighbors and Mexican residents supplied water aiding a quick control within thirty minutes. Damage to the house is about 800 dollars covered by Isabella County Mutual Fire Insurance Co.

A Tuesday night Clare celebration turned into a loud charivari when four locals gathered with noise makers and surrounded a Harris County cottage. After signaling, guns saws and sirens roared, the newlyweds were roused and loaded onto trucks for a ride amid curious residents mistaking it for a police siege. The Prosecuting Attorney called it over after the first ride, but the crowd pressed on, recalling Ted’s prior involvement in similar pranks. The event, though rowdy, was described as a memorable, if boisterous, party by all involved.
