High Mortality of Chicks Requires Knowledge and Judgment

Vitamins Boost for Laying Hens Nutrition
Laying hens benefit from vitamins and elements found in milk and fresh greens. Sour skim milk is a long noted supplement to grain and mash, fed in open pans for easy access at reasonable price. Use semi solid puttermilk at 3 to 5 pounds per 100 hens daily.
Poultry Notes on Egg Yields and Care
A guide notes that environment strongly affects egg production with extreme cold or heat reducing flow. Five month old turkeys are usable but fattening should not rush. Proper care and breeding capacity are needed for high egg yield. Most eggs are laid between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Chick care is highly exacting and range timing varies with seasons to avoid early exposure.
