The Clare Sentinel offers a $100 cash reward for reliable information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the unlawful entry of Household Appliances Inc store in Clare and the theft of multiple transistor radios. Burglary occurred late June 27 or early June 28, 1962.

An eighteen month old boy Kevin Monroe drowned yesterday in a watering trough on his grandparents’ farm 54 miles northeast of Rosebush. He was visiting his grandparents Mr and Mrs Allan Bullard when he went missing and was later found in the trough after a search.
Michigan joins National Farm Safety Week July 22 28 focusing on safety at work at play and in the home. Authorities cite fatalities on rural roads and farms and highlight youth programs 4 H and FFA as key to reducing hazards and injuries nationwide.
A public meeting at the Doherty hotel features Neil Stabler Democrat candidate for Congressman at large speaking on practical politics at 8:00 p.m. July 27 in the Wedgewood Room. Other central Michigan Democrats will attend. Stabler has lectured at UMass and served as Michigan Democratic Chairman and National Committeeman.
Laurence W. Jackson Jr acting postmaster in Clare received word that his nomination to permanent postmastership has been sent to the United States Senate for confirmation.
Grace McArthur of Rosebush hosts a three week solo art show at Fleming Studio and Gift Shop 208 E Broadway Mt Pleasant. Her landscapes and life like figures appear on cards and paintings and she shares a Michigan Regional Art Exhibition at University of Michigan Rackham galleries with Virginia Seitz. Seitz shows Still Life With Fear and McArthur presents My Obit in a display of 126 Michigan paintings.
State Highway Department awards the Hicks Company of Alma a contract to pave 10.3 miles of state road surface in Clare county. The project includes sections on Bailey Lake Ave Tobacco Drive Rogers Rd Hoover Rd Bailey Ave Maple Rd and Norway Ave near Harrison Clare and Lake George with completion set for November 15 1962.

The Clare Public Schools announced Seiter Brothers won the general contract for building additions and remodeling at Clare schools. The $275,000 project includes ten new classrooms and fire safety upgrades. Work starts July 23 and wraps by January 1, 1963, with Deming Plumbing and Heating, Holy Electric, and Corbitt and Greenwald named as subcontractors.

The program is not accepted for licensing nor approved under private trade school law and its claims to meet state requirements and employ nurses in Michigan are false.
The Thursday afternoon Ladies Bowling League will hold an open meeting on Tuesday July 31 at 1 00 p m at Gateway Lanes to start its 1962 63 season. Interested bowlers from last year and new entrants are invited. Substitutes will be needed.
Opening Monday the Clare County Free Fair promises six days of fair time excitement on the grounds at Harrison. The harness racing program grows to five days with $21 000 in purses, plus grandstand shows and a Dressage performance. Four bicycles to be given in the free drawing, a giant midway, nightly fireworks, Hell Drivers auto thrill show, and continuous entertainment mark the event.

MSU economists and Extension staff coordinate the 14th annual tour with lunch by 4 7 Clubs and a demonstration of rye seeding by Lake farm aircraft.
Clare police arrested seven youths from Detroit last week for siphoning gasoline from auto and truck tanks. Four were involved in an auto trip, one minor among them. Officers surprised the group Thursday night near town after a car chase. hoses and containers were found. Earlier that day three others were questioned over stolen gas from cars near the Johnston Elevator.
A Welty family reunion at Lake George drew twelve members across six siblings including Rev. Ivan Welty and Prof. Carl Welty. The group featured four authors and an artist with ties to Boothbay Harbor Beloit Kalamazoo and Lakewood. Renowned works by Ivan and Susan Welty and Carl Welty plus Magdalen Tolson and Viola Welty were highlighted.
Ben Carpenter of Harrison died Monday at home after an eight year illness. The former state senator, a Hartwick Township native, operated a real estate business after leaving the Legislature and served multiple non consecutive terms. He is survived by his wife and four sons.
In a 1-0 pitcher's duel, the Colts edged the Tigers to cap a season ending 15 8 7 5 3 standings. David West allowed one hit over seven innings while Dave Genow fanned 14 and yielded three hits. Final week results featured Lions over Colts 9-4 Bears 15 Lions 0 Cubs 9 RamS 8.
Distinctive tire marks at a break in led to the arrest of Andrew James Hoag of Harrison RD 1. Hoag is held at Clare County Jail on breaking and entering in the nighttime. He was nabbed by Sheriff James Darling and Trooper Wilber Bond after investigators traced the marks from the Harry Randall home to Hoag's residence. He admitted the break in after questioning.
Funeral services were held for Lloyd E Conley of Rogers City age 64 who died at home. Survivors include wife and multiple children and grandchildren. George A Brown 77 retired railroad employee died in Cadillac and services were held at Coker Funeral Home Farwell. He leaves eight children and many grandchildren. Mrs Gustav Marotzke 76 died in Sebewaing after illness. services and burial were held there. Attending from Clare were Julius Schaeffer and Mr and Mrs Harold Schaeffer.
