M-14 Boosters Form Local Association at Picnic

A July 30 gathering at Wilson State Park Harrison led to the formation of the M-14 Association. Officers named include Chairman Asa Aldrich Secretary W K Willman and Treasurer William H Bicknell. The group supports paving M-14 from St Johns through Alma Shepherd Mt Pleasant Clare Harrison to Grayling and beyond to Gaylord and Cheboygan.

Respectful Estle Leitner Dies After Illness in Bay City

Estle J Leidner of Arthur township dies at Bay City after three months of lung trouble and a brain hemorrhage. He was operated on, improved, then stricken again. remains returned home for funeral at Brown Church conducted by Rev. Frank Bates with burial in Cherry Grove cemetery. Obituary to follow next week.

Miss Start Plans Educational Vacation Abroad

Miss Coila Start leaves Wednesday for New York and sails on the Leviathan on the 25th to France. She will spend weeks in Paris Lyons and the Rhine country with friends while teaching both French and German. The Saginaw Arthur Hill high teacher is daughter of Mr and Mrs Wm Start.

Standard Church Camp Meeting Announced In Rose Bush Area

The Annual meeting of the Standard Church of the Michigan District will be held at the John Y. Johnson grove near Rose bush from Friday August 14 to Sunday August 23. Loose Gravel Wreck Claims Victim on M20 Near Lake

While returning on a trip on M20 near Lake on Monday evening Ben N Mercer lost control of the Chevrolet touring car owned by Roy Wilson. The vehicle turned over into a ditch after striking loose gravel. Mercer and Mr Brock of Toledo were riding aboard and suffered only minor injuries while 16 people were seriously injured.

George Chester Dies in July 11 1925 in Clare Michigan

George Chester born July 5 1849 in North Hampton Shide England married Mary Burton October 11 1870. They moved to America near Antwerp Ohio and raised five children. He died at his daughter Eliza Showalter’s home in Clare Michigan on July 11 1925 and was buried July 14 in Antwerp New Cemetery.

New Michigan Law Lets Farm Mutuals Cancel Delinquent Policies

Directive dated August seven establishes a rule requiring farm mutual insurance companies to cancel policies of members ninety days after delinquency. The change narrows previous practice where suits were filed by a few mutuals to collect from members who felt unprotected and detached for nonpayment. Under the new law an assessment can still be collected up to policy cancellation.

Auto Turns Turtle Sunday Near County Farm

Mr and Mrs George Brumn of Plint and their two children were in a serious crash on M-14 while en route to Houghton Lake. Brumn lost a clutch and coasted downhill, the car struck gravel, rolled into a ditch, and toppled. All occupants suffered injuries. the Bruns and their son were treated at Dr B J Sanford.

Mexican Woman Found Dead After Farm Quarrel

Mrs. Juan Medina, a Mexican woman, was found dead after a quarrel with her husband at Chas Lee farm in Vernon township. An inquest in Mt. Pleasant and post mortem were held. authorities later reported death by own action though doubts remain due to limited wound blood. She leaves six children.

Wells Dies Sudden in Mt Pleasant

News reached Sunday evening of the sudden death of Herbert M. Wells of Mt. Pleasant. He had been in apparent good health during the day and his passing shocked many friends. A brother of Mrs. Sidney Barber of this city, Wells once managed the C. W. Campbell furniture store here. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at the Free Methodist church in Mt. Pleasant, where he had lived since age seven.

Manager Fred Doherty of Hotel Doherty in Clare Michigan has received seventy four unsolicited letters from across the United States praising the hotel’s service. One sample letter from Detroit businessman Geo G Harvey dated July 8 1925 requests six bath rooms for a party of twelve or thirteen on a future visit.

Gladwin County Farmers Tour and Picnic Plans

The first annual Gladwin County Farmers Tour and Picnic is set for August 7 with invitations extended to Clare Midland and nearby counties. Highlights include dairy and crop topics, speakers from MSU, a dairy movie, alfalfa demonstrations, noon and evening programs at Beaverton, and a baseball game between Holstein and Jersey breeders. Walter Carr Killed Sunday In Chelsea Accident

Sheridan township residents were stunned when Walter Carr of Chelsea was killed Sunday night. He was struck on the Chelsea sidewalk by an 18 year old boy driving and thrown fifty feet. Carr leaves a wife and child and other relatives. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the Kleiner home.

Miss Aileen Mildred Welch daughter of the late B. G. Welch and Mrs. Minnie M. Welch married Earl Hesseltine Bennett at 7:30 p.m. June 30 in Westlake Methodist church Los Angeles California. Rev. G A Warmer officiated. The ceremony featured smilax, ferns and daisies and a musical program. The bride wore white georgette with pearls and a tulle veil. sister Marjorie attended in blue georgette. After a reception the couple left for a motor trip to Yosemite and other northern spots. Bennet works at Security Trust and Savings Bank. They will reside in Los Angeles on return.

Methodist Church Holds Optimistic Quarterly Conference

The Clare Methodist Church at M. B. church held a large quarterly conference Monday evening led by District Superintendent BE Armstrong. Thirty four members from Clare and Herrick attended with few absentees and year reports were gratifying. The conference unanimously requested the return of Rev. Former Clare Girl Becomes Bride in Centerville Wedding

Evelyne Knight, a former Clare girl now living in Goshen Indiana, married Lawrence Yoder in Centerville Michigan on July 15. The couple, listed as from Goshen, plans to begin housekeeping soon after a short stay with the bride's mother at 218 Riverside Blvd. The ceremony followed her family's move from Clare two years ago.
