Many-Gifted Man Lesson on Samuel and the Times
A column argues for triple threat individuals like Samuel and historical figures such as Milton Schweitzer and Lee. The piece contrasts selfless public service with self-serving ambition.

Onions Cooked in Water Lose Flavorful Oil
Raw onions release a strong volatile oil when heated. To reduce sharp flavor, cook in a large amount of boiling water in an open kettle, allowing much of the oil to escape with the steam.
Fermentation Clues for Honey Handling
Fermentation occurs only if honey is not well ripened and kept with high moisture. Yeasts die at 160 degrees F so heating honey to that temp prevents fermentation if sealed. In dry warm air honey releases moisture. in humid conditions it absorbs moisture.
