County Livestock Demonstration and 4-H Camp Notice
Fourteen livestock members and equal parents attended the fitting and showing demonstration at Charles Kleinhardt home on Friday June 30. Carolyn Carter-Bay demonstrated show preparation and ring presentation. Showmanship offers $25 first prize at the county fair with Clare Kiwanis sponsoring a Chicago trip for an outstanding Beef Club member and funding travel for four 4-H members to the International Livestock Exposition. The award winner will be announced at the Care County Fair. 4-H camp runs August 10 11 12 at Coldwater Lake. registration blanks are available from leaders.

Gov Swainson proclaims Michigan Tree Farm Week for July 17 and 20 events at Camp B on the Big Cedar river. A 10 am dedication marks the Spalding Lumber Camp B site now run as a multi use tree farm by the Peterson Bros Co. The day honors 102 newly certified Michigan tree farmers and the 20th anniversary of the American Tree Farm Program.

Cover crops in corn should be seeded just before or after the last cultivation. If an airplane is used an August seeding is possible. Late seedings can be used on corn land harvested for silage. Michigan State University's plant collection will be shown to visitors on Garden Day Saturday afternoon July 22. The main campus spans about 3 000 acres with more than 3 400 plant species and varieties, including trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants.
