A severe windstorm in Clare early Tuesday damaged the Geo W Basler block roofs wrecking three stores and leaving autos struck under debris. Shops including Noras Cafeteria and OConnor s Grocery suffered water and furnishing losses totaling five to six thousand dollars with no injuries. Winds toppled trees and blew in home windows as the statewide storm traced east from Lake Michigan.

Rosebush Barn Burns On Monday Night
A large barn and granary on the Jonah Irwin farm one mile east and half a mile south of Rosebush were destroyed by fire Monday night. Neighbors saved the adjacent garage. no stock was harmed but the stored hay crop is lost. The cause is unknown.

College Seeks Borer Free Corn Varieties
Michigan State College experimental station at Monroe conducts trials to breed corn resistant to the European corn borer. Four plantings at two week intervals are tested with fertilized late strains and two foreign varieties, Argentine Flint and Maize Amargo, crossbred to hasten maturity. Osceola County Seat Question Goes to Supreme Court
Osceola County Board of Supervisors in session July 5 answered a writ of mandamus to keep the county seat at Hersey. Prosecuting attorney Savidge filed to support legality of moving the county seat to Reed City. The case goes to the Supreme Court on briefs and may return to the Circuit Court to establish facts before final Supreme Court decision.

Four Die as Auto Hits Train at Crossin on M-66
A northbound automobile carrying two men a woman a 12 year old boy collided with an eastbound Pere Marquette engine at a grade crossing three miles east of Sears. All four occupants died two hours after arrival at a farm house. Identified victims were Homer New York tourists Frank and Mrs Howe Winton Baker and friend George Baker. Bodies were sent to Homer and arrangements made by William Howe of Palo Michigan.

Funeral services were held at the Rosebush Methodist church for Horatio Nelson Johnston known as Long Ned. He lived in Rosebush forty three years and died July 7 1927 after a sudden illness. He was born November 8 1860 in Peel County Ontario married Margaret Nixon January 1 1882 and moved to Michigan. He leaves wife four sons six brothers two sisters and many friends. He was known for generosity and lifelong labor in stock buying and church support.

Thirty members of the Saginaw Rotary Club in luncheon at the Doherty Hotel on their way to Rotary Lake and the Boy Scouts camp north of Clare. They joined afternoon baseball and camp activities with the boys, stayed for supper and camp fire, and praised the camp and lodging. The lake and site were purchased by the club, which funds camp deficits annually.

Petition of 1890 Infevidence Mentioned in Clare History
James F. Tatman holds a petition filed October 9 1880 with C W Pory director of the Clare school district requesting a site for a school building and bonds of 10000 for the project. Twenty five taxpayers signed. fifteen died and four signers remain in Clare James I Tatman W H Elden S C Kirkbride and Jake Mason. The petition accompanied a move to purchase land on West Fifth Street where a city hall stood. Bonds funded a building later destroyed by fire in 1921.
