Chaffee Family Mourns Loss In Chicago Railroad Tragedy
Leo L Chaffee of Pontiac born in Greenwood Township Clare County in 1898 was accidentally killed at Chicago on July 9 1921 at age 22 years 19 months and 15 days. Funeral held at the Congregational Church with Rev Davis in charge. Interment in Cherry Grove cemetery. The bereaved family includes parents and siblings and many relatives from Clare Pontiac Crystal Detroit and Saginaw areas.

Officials ratified a plan to buy books lost in a fire for next year and also pay for the teacher’s property used for school purposes. A clearer announcement is promised, and the meeting adjourned to cooler quarters.
Annual Meeting of Clare Chamber of Commerce Held
Last Wednesday evening the Clare Chamber of Commerce held its annual meeting in the City park. Officers were re elected to serve another year. J H Reed of Clara's Pew Cannery attended and discussed the new industry. A relief plan for the ice famine affecting Clare was proposed. A resolution urged the mayor to hire a speed cop to patrol streets and curb autoists and to police late Saturday nights.

Auto smash claims four lives near Mt Pleasant
A man and three young women riding north of the city went into a ditch after a passing maneuver. Ben McNabb of Gratiot county and companions Corela Cox Mildred Arndt and Sarah Brooke were injured. McNabb crushed under the car and later reported improving. Cox suffered a double right clavicle fracture and facial wound. Arndt and Brooks injured with arm and finger fractures.

Lansing reports the Condon automobile registration act makes Michigan the third state to issue certificates of title. Certificates cost 1 dollar and are issued by the secretary of state from the general office at Lansing. They are lifelong and non renewed. about 460000 certificates expected this year. Applications were mailed with spaces for all information and must be sworn to by the applicant.
