The Village of Lake marks its 200th birthday with a three day festival July 15 to 17 featuring crowning of kings and queens, children’s ballgame, bingo and beer tents, hay rides, a street dance with the Firebrood band, parade Saturday morning with about 60 floats, an auction by Joe Snover, games, a flea market, ball games, water contests, a water parade, raffles, tug of war and a centennial dress code inviting residents to celebrate in Centennial attire.

Downtown Clare parking plan hearing set for July 21
A public hearing on the downtown Clare special assessment district for a new east side McEwan Street parking lot is scheduled for July 21 at 7 30 p m. The session covers blocks fronting McEwan Street from 3rd to 6th and adjacent blocks on 4th and 5th Streets with 80 new spaces and expanded 4th Street parking. The hearing follows June 27 and will review proposed assessments for property owners in the district.

Clare residents received 1977 tax bills last week with some increases from higher valuations and others lower. Millage remains at 16 for general fund and 1 mill for the library. total real estate valuation rose to 15,025,521 from 14,406,229 in 1976 and library funds reach 17,498.79.
