Michigan Losses in Supreme Court on Federal Aid for Wildlife

Michigan officials and state attorneys failed to overturn a 1959 method for distributing federal Pittman Robertson funds used in wildlife programs. The Supreme Court denied review, ending the effort by Wisconsin Minnesota and Colorado to restore the old practice. Michigan now faces annual losses of about 100 000 to 125 000 in PR funds and a potential release delay of roughly 450 000 tied to prior withholding since 1999. The change tied half the funds to total licenses rather than individual license holders, complicating calculations due to hunters holding multiple licenses.
