Norway church to serve cod fishermen community
The Methodist congregation at Svolvaer in Norway plans a new church building to aid social ministry for cod fishermen. Bishop Odd Hagen laid the cornerstone, funds from Norwegian and American Methodists support construction, due for completion in spring 1957 with spaces for meetings meals reading rooms a cafe and a clinic for seamen and townsfolk.

Methodist Youth Pledge Safety Drive Begins in Minnesota
Minnesota Methodist youth units organized a highway safety pledge campaign at Hamline University in St Paul. The Methodist Youth Fellowship aims to foster a national crusade for safe courteous driving under the motto petting the other fellow go first. More than 300 societies across Minnesota will take the pledge to practice Christian action on the highways.

Baptisms Reach New Guinea Highlands in Mission Surge
Dr Fridtjov Birkell reports 865 New Guinea natives baptized by the Lutheran World Federation in a mountain tribe. About 3,000 witnesses attended the service marking entry of 365 into the church. The tribe learned Christianity after missionaries arrived two decades ago, now contributing to a total church membership of 150,000 in New Guinea and 20,000 Christians within the tribe.
