Michigan’s Sturgeon Reach Record Sizes in Great Lakes
Fisheries expert Professor Lagler describes sturgeon as highly adaptive yet slow growing and late maturing. He notes females mature after 20 years, sturgeon can reach five feet and 60 pounds, and males may exceed 100 pounds. Tales cite snagging 226 pounds and 24 pounds from Lake Michigan near Grand Haven, with kernels of corn found in stomachs from grain-elevator waters.

Fishermen reminded to label shelters and remove ice lake shelters
Professor Lagler notes that fishermen must mark shelters on the lake with owner name and address on durable two inch high letters and remove shelters before ice. He cites large sturgeon in Europe and warns Michigan length limits and protections may not curb declines without faster enforcement.
