The Still Alarm a Universal Jewel production plays at Princess Theatre January 27 and 28. Helene Chadwick and William Russell lead a star cast in a modern fire department melodrama with dramatic fire scenes and a noted modiste shop setting.
Epworthians are urged to attend a Monday evening event on January 24 at 7 30 in the Methodist church League rooms. New officers will be elected and plans for the year discussed. The program includes social activities and games for an enjoyable night. Connie invites participation to help start the year successfully.
Sarah Ann White born August 30 1844 in Mc Henry county Solon WV died January 16 1927 at her daughter Mrs John Smith s home Wise township aged 82 years 4 months 16 days She married George Strachan of London Ont December 16 Our union lasted 54 years 1 month There were three children James Margaret and George James preceded her in death 23 years Survived by husband aged 90 two children Mrs John Smith Wise and George Strachan Detroit 13 grandchildren 4 great grandchildren Funeral from Wise home conducted by Rev BE Smith interment Cherry Grove cemetery
Mrs. Thos. K. Bell, a Sheridan township resident and long-time pioneer, died January 14 1927 at age 78. The obituary notes a large family of ten surviving children, a sixty-year marriage, and interment in Cherry Grove cemetery beside her late son William. A funeral service was held January 18 with Rev. A. P. MacDonald officiating.
Dr Foland will be away from his Mt Pleasant office on Monday January 24 and Wednesday January 26. He will also be unavailable Tuesday January 25 due to absence from the Mt Pleasant location of Foland Optical Co.
On January 12 1867 Jasper Snider and Miss Fannie Culley wed at Camden East Canada. The Sniders lived in Wise township Michigan then Vernon City. They have nine children seven living, seventeen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mrs Snider nearly 80, Mr Snider almost 85, both active. Visitors sent well wishes, gifts, and music filled the celebration at their home.
Mrs Minnie Graham longtime Rosebush resident died in Oakland California January 1 1927 at age 64 She born February 7 1862 in Ontario came to Rosebush Michigan as a 19 year old teacher She married William John Graham in 1884 at Saginaw and the couple lived on a farm west of Rosebush raising their family
Roy O Woodruff, a U S Congressman, hunted during a congressional holiday recess and met President Coolidge at the White House. Coolidge reportedly said he is fond of duck. Woodruff’s party hunted in South Carolina, bagging two deer and two wild turkeys, his first in that game class.
Dance program at Mt Vernon Grange on Friday night January 28 features round and square dancing. Committee 1312 organizes the event for local residents and dancers.
Fred Hudson has served as Clare’s senior rural mail carrier for over twenty three years on route one. He took the 1903 examination and began work September 1 1903 when the first rural route out of Clare was established. The route started as twenty four miles dirt road with heavy clay and no paved sections. today it spans about thirty three and a half miles, mostly gravel, with additions and reconfigurations over time. He uses an automobile on clear days and a snowmobile in deep winter, remaining the only rural carrier in Clare to own one. When weather blocks the car he delivers with another carrier to cover parts of the route.

Reed City captured two points to Clare one in a debate held in the high school auditorium. Judges included Principal G. R. Bogan and professors Merrill and Marshall with Miss Lydia Sherritt of Central Normal school Mt Pleasant. Reed City team voiced for US government owning coal mines. Clare team led by Miss Horton Desormeau and Mr Holbrook argued the negative.

The oldest ladies society in Clare, the Ladies Union of the Congregational church, traces to 1873 as a Ladies Aid Society and unified in 1884. At the recent annual meeting Mrs. W. Elden was elected president with officers including Mrs. Frank Falk and Mrs. C. H. Sutherland. The group, comprising older women, reported funds sufficient to meet church pledges and a healthy treasury balance.
Clare high school defeats Beaverton 22 to 8 at Beaverton. Wally Johnson leads with six field goals, H B Johnson adds three, Grover scores one field goal and five free throws. Beaverton’s early efforts falter as Clare's speed and teamwork prevail, closing the Gladwin county event. Next game versus Ewart on Friday January 28 on Clare floor.
J J Green, longtime Clare resident, has leased the Lewis building near the post office formerly Shumway’s to open a men’s shop. Greer says a full line of clothing, furnishings, shoes, and new cabinets will be ready in February.Prepare for the Legion dance on February 14.

The I. O. O. F. and Rebekahs Judges held a joint installation at their hall last Friday with District Deputy Pro tem Charles J. Grill and District Deputy president Etta Snider installing. A supper followed and dancing capped the evening as a large attendance signaled strong interest for the year. Officers elected include Leo Oden and J. Grill among others, with several nuevas appointed.
Joseph Omar Larson and Miss Ruth Helen Davis of Sheridan township were united in marriage at the bride’s parents residence two miles east of Colonville. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. H. B. Johnson of Clare with an impressive ring ceremony. Attendants were Mr and Mrs Harold Larson of Pontiac. Thirty guests attended and the couple will reside on the old homestead northeast of Clare.
