The Clare High School Pioneers, five straight wins this season, defeated St Louis 83 to 15 on Friday. Wes Samborn led with 15 points, Carl Cappaert added 13, as the team extended their unbeaten streak and kept Casper the goat in Clare until next year’s football season. The earlier games included wins over Reed City and Harrison, with a 32-24 comeback win and a 58-18 rout. The Little Pioneers suffered a 19-18 loss to St Louis in a separate game marred by 34 fouls.

The Clare Congregational Church held its regular annual meeting in the church parlors on Sunday evening January 3 1943. A pot luck supper preceded reports from church boards and departments. Inducted while serving as counselor at the University of Michigan Fresh Air Camp near Ann Arbor he completed basic training at Camp Wallace Texas and attended officer candidate school at Camp Davis North Carolina earning the rank.

New Fuel Oil Ruling Targets Dealers With Unredeemed Credits
A proposed amendment to fuel oil rationing requires dealers with unredeemed coupon credits to apply to the Glare County Rationing Board in Harrison on January 14 15 and 16. The dealer must list his home the customer names and addresses the amount of oil transferred the credits owed and their efforts to redeem credits. The board will issue exchange certificates for total unredeemed notes once properly presented.

Citizens State Bank of Clare Holds Annual Meeting
The Citizens State Bank of Clare held its annual stockholders meeting on Tuesday evening. Officers and directors from last year were reelected. Harold Mitchell Killed in Action in New Guinea
Sergeant Harold Mitchell 24 of near Ionia and formerly Clare was killed in New Guinea after being wounded December 9 and dying December 26 1942. He captured a Japanese soldier and machine gun on December 6 and the weapon was sent home as a souvenir. He is the grandson of Mrs. Gordon Ripenburg north of Clare.

Clare High School Adopts Physical Fitness Program
In cooperation with the National Government Claré High School will start a second semester physical fitness program. It targets junior and senior boys with voluntary girls classes and aims to build better men and workers for the home front during the second world war. Activities include tumbling boxing skating wrestling and more. Health exams will be given and credit awarded for half a year. Students may take no more than five subjects including this program.

Decision clears title to oil land in Clare County
Federal Judge Arthur J. Tuttle ruled that only persons with land under oil bearing parts of the Clare county farm will share in royalties from oil in the Temple field. The decision ends lengthy litigation spawned by Simrall Corp against Flora Coyne and about 100 defendants, affecting a $50,000 jackpot and $15,000 already paid, and orders the clerk to turn over funds from November 1939 to December 1943.

The Office of Price Administration revised tire inspection rules delaying the January deadline. Holders of basic gasoline coupons have until end of March for the first inspection, with subsequent checks every six months. B and C book holders and fleet bulk coupon holders must inspect by end of February and then switch to four and three month intervals respectively. County motorists are urged not to delay, as inspections will peak late March. about 4,000 inspectors statewide with 1,000 in Wayne County are available, but delays could cause congestion.
