Arrest of Clare teacher on sex charge shocks town
Clare Junior High School teacher George Hill 34 of Mt. Pleasant is suspended after being charged with criminal sexual conduct with a student under 16. Hill appeared in Isabella County District Court Monday with a $2000 bond. preliminary hearing set for 9 am January 19. He has taught in the district seven years and remains on salary pending the hearing under the Michigan Tenure Act.

Harrison man arraigned on burglary charge
A 23 year old Harrison man, David L. Abernathy, stood mute at arraignment in District Court in Harrison on a burglary charge. Bond set at $1000. Examination scheduled for Jan 25. Arrest occurred at a cabin on 1416 West Lilly Road Friday morning by Clare County deputies with Lt. Jeff Goyt, Deputy Rick Miller and Officer Leon Dyke taking part. A second suspect is being sought after entry by smashing a window at the east end of the cabin. The cabin is owned by a Farmington Hills resident.

Beaverton Woman Named to Clare-Gladwin School Board
Dorothy Buzzell of 2630 Glidden Road Beaverton Michigan was appointed by the Clare-Gladwin Intermediate School District Board to fill the vacancy created by the death of Maynard Calhoon. The appointment was made at the December Regular Board Meeting and will run until the next biennial election in June 1977. Calhoon served three years and one month on the board and was secretary. he also led Building Trades Incorporated as president.

Harrison Man 34 Found Dead in Snow Near Clare
A Harrison man, Jack Allen Mavis 34, was found in the snow outside a Clare area motel on January 6. An autopsy cited prolonged exposure to low temperatures as the cause. Police found no foul play. Funeral services were held January 8 in Harrison, with burial at Maple Grove Cemetery. Survived by son Jeff, mother Hazel Snider, stepfather Frank Snider, grandmother Martha Allen, brother Mick Mavis, and sisters Sally Lyon and Nancy Harris.
