Lionel Duncan Hurt In Fall From Silo
Lionel Duncan fell twenty five feet while throwing ensilage at a Clare area farm. He was taken to Clare Hospital where x rays showed no bones broken but multiple bruises and a sprained right foot. He is recovering at home. Another note: Robert Cookson, sixth grader at Clare Public School, fractured his right lower leg during a soccer play period and will wear a plaster cast for about a month. Reverend Ernest Burk will speak at Hagle Church of God Sunday.

Sylvanus Cornelius Badgley aged eighty seven months four days died January 4 1945 at his son Vernies home in Remus Michigan Born May 31 1864 in Ontario Canada he moved to Michigan as a boy married Cora Terry in 1891 and had seven sons and three daughters Six daughters reside in Battle Creek Battle Creek and Bat tle Creek LeRoy Vernie and Herbert are among his sons The death of his wife occurred July 11 1938 with four sons predeceasing him in 1918 1927 and 1938 He leaves eleven grandchildren two brothers a sister and many nieces and nephews Funeral services were held January 7 1945 at Thurston Funeral Home with Rev Chas Kleinhardt officiating and burial at Cherry Grove Cemetery

Three Men Burned in Boiler Explosion Near Barryton
Bernard McNerney of Clare and Alva Dimit and Joe Boys of Mt Pleasant were seriously burned when a boiler house blew up at the Fork field near Barryton Mecosta county Saturday around 11 am. McNerney warned others and all three were burned while oil and gas erupted from the boiler. Dimit and Boys were hospitalized with facial, head and neck burns. McNerney, treated and released, is recovering at home. McNerney works for Leonard Pipe Line. Dimit and Boys for Chapman Oil.

Former Clare Methodist Pastor Dies in Sparta
Rev. G. W. Maxwell died at his Sparta home Thursday morning January 4 after years of illness. Born January 22, 1862 in Dearborn Michigan he married Nellie Snowdin August 8 1889 in Grand Rapids. He served Clare Methodist Church over ten years and later retired to Sparta. He leaves wife daughter Edna Maxwell of Detroit son Warren Maxwell of Wyoming sister Mrs Mary Lytle Clare and many relatives. Funeral services were held Monday in Sparta. Mrs Lytle could not attend.

Early Morning Fire Threatens Doherty Building
A fire started about 1:00 a m in a waste paper basket in the hallway between the K of C Lodge rooms and the Robison apartment, threatening the Doherty Building at McEwan and Fifth. Arthur Cour alerted the hotel, woke the Robisons, and firefighters battled attic flames, causing water and smoke damage to the hallway, attic, and several offices with estimated losses near 600 dollars.
