A Sunday forenoon fire swept the Davys department store and Fleming Shoe Co stock in Clare, destroying the two story brick building erected in 1900. Firemen fought for hours with Barton-Robinson pump boosting pressure, while firms insured for substantial sums faced total losses across dry goods, ready to wear, and shoes.
