January Michigan events draw winter travelers statewide

Mail Fire Damages Pouches at Saginaw Sorting Point
Fire damaged or destroyed fourteen pouches of first class mail and additional second and third class mail on arrival at the Saginaw Post Office last Friday. About 30 to 40 pieces of first class matter were destined for Clare addresses. Postmaster Larry Jackson said the mail was en route from Lansing to Saginaw on a contract hauler when the fire occurred.

Clare County GOP Set to Convene January 15 1969
The Clare County Republican Spring Convention will meet at 8 00 p m January 15 1969 in the Harrison courthouse Michigan to elect delegates to the Republican State Convention in Grand Rapids February 14 15 1969 and handle other business. Delegates are those elected August 6 1968 and certified. Committee officials are Don Luce Farwell chair and Mrs Ellen Ulch Harrison secretary.

Miniature Fort For Christmas
The Hainley family presents a handmade miniature Fort Mackinaw shaped replica for Christmas. Built by Mr Kermit Hainley it features block houses stockade walls walk arounds and tiny stairways to a lookout. A miniature church with a hand chiseled bell is crafted by Verne Hains of Clare.

Clare High Ski Teams Prepares For Inaugural Competitive Season
A Clare High School ski squad formed this season with 17 boys and 11 girls aims for at least three meets. Training under George Palmers of Mott Mountain, the team will open with Cadillac events on January 15 24 and 29 at 1 30 PM.
