Long History of 4 H Clubs in Michigan
Michigan's 4-H Club system grew from early corn growing associations and local contests starting around 1900. Pioneers include Horace Greeley era leaders in 1856 and figures like A. B. Graham and Will B. Otwell. The 4-H movement was formalized by 1914 with the Smith Lever Extension Act, integrating 4-H into federal and state extension services.
