Clare County ranks 30th in the nation for net immigration of residents over 65 and now hosts nearly one quarter of its 21 000 population in that age group. VFW Dedicates Pettit-Kapplinger Post Home With 100 Attendees

About 100 charter members auxiliary members and guests attended the Pettit Kapplinger VFW Post 5738 dedication on Sunday February 15. Activities ran 1 00 p m to 8 30 p m including building inspection dedication service buffet and dancing. Notable speakers included District Commander Fred VonHinken Judge Donald Holbrook Sr and state Rep John Engler with Viola Bay a Voice of Democracy winner speaking on American Heritage.

Taxes Due In Clare County With New Fees

Clare residents face a 4 percent collection fee on taxes not paid by February 16. Personal property taxes unpaid after March 1 incur 34 or 1 percent monthly charges. Payments can be made at city hall or township offices. After March 1, all overdue taxes go to the county treasurer for collection.

Board Overturns Disciplinary Action For Ski Team Members

The Board of Education overturned disciplinary action against eight ski team members after a Monday night special meeting that ran from 9 p m to 12 10 a m The meeting followed three consecutive Monday sessions as the board normally meets monthly Audience members criticized the decision saying it weakens faculty and coaches authority Coaches urged a workshop with the board to clarify policies and procedures Athletic director and superintendent procedures were discussed with concerns over collective bargaining legality A workshop with coaches was proposed and a March plan for handbook revision was discussed The district plans to pursue vocational education funding with a millage vote in September pending approval A juvenile rehabilitation program and CM Health Department project were tabled A $200 legal retainer was approved for Thrun Maatsch and Nordberg to supplement local lawyers
