The Clare facility of Chandler Evans Division in Clare will shut within three to four months. About 240 workers will lose their jobs as the firm cites a purely economic downturn in aerospace. School to Serve as GED Testing Center for Adults
At the Monday board meeting the district approved using the public schools as a GED test center for adult education. The change avoids sending students to Mid Michigan College or Mt. Pleasant Public Schools, saving money since tests would be locally purchased and priced at six dollars per person. The board also named Michigan National Bank of Saginaw sole paying agent for the new school bond issue and approved state level bond loan participation. A resolution to amend the Michigan Constitution to shift powers from the state board of education to the legislature was tabled for study. A special meeting was set for February 22 to discuss the athletic director position.
