Fire destroys large building on Currie Farm near Clare

A Tuesday fire at Currie farm southwest of Clare destroyed a large 30 by 80 foot garage and repair shop, with two tractors an automobile and many small repair tools lost. Loren Garver discovered the blaze. Clare rural fire brigade saved the house and other structures. Firefighter Wilbur Ireland suffered facial burns. no fire insurance covered the garage. Cause not yet determined.

Enemy Aliens Must Register by February 28th

Knowledge from local postal authorities shows several enemy aliens in the community have not registered. All Germans Italians and Japanese who are not naturalized citizens must register at the post office no later than February 28. Those unregistered are urged to do so at once to avoid embarrassment and possible imprisonment.

Home Defense Registration Opens Next Week in Clare

Clare County Council of Defense will run voluntary Home Defense registration next week in the Jackson meat market building. The office will be open each afternoon with help from the Clare Study Club volunteers. applicants will provide identification, past military service, and five preferred service types.

Increased sugar production hoped for in 1942

Secretary of Agriculture Claude R. Wickard said higher sugar output is hoped for in 1942 due to war related demand and policy incentives. He cited reduced normal granary supplies from 1941 distribution, offshore sugar curtailment, higher prices, and boosted government payments as factors.

The Clare County Red Cross Unit met at Clare City Hall with about fifty attendees. Morrel Clure was chosen chair of the First Aid Committee. three units are active, two more planned in Arthur township. 1,400 garments sewn in Clare county. Home Nursing classes underway. next meeting set for Harrison on March 9. The Victory Book Campaign designates Clare City Library as collection center. Vernon Township unit reports sixteen members, sewing and knitting progress, and a call for unused sewing machines. meetings every Thursday at the Vernon town hall.

Child Health Group Meeting In Harrison February Four

Clare County Child Health Association met in Harrison for the regular monthly session on February 4. Poor attendance due to bad weather. Paul Gibson spoke on home gardens and benefits. many more gardens expected. Dr Helen Lanting reported over ninety five percent of local schoolchildren have defective teeth and cited nutrition and sleep lack as causes. Reginald McBride announced no school dentist service this year due to missing budget for a helper. Next meeting set for Temple on March 4.

Methodist church hosts conference director and youth education talk

Sunday services at the Clare Methodist Church featured Rev Wayne Fleenor Michigan conference director of religious education and youth work as guest speaker. A 1:00 pm pot luck followed for Sunday school teachers and officers with round table discussion and departmental study.

First Aid Course Classes to Start Here Wednesday

The Red Cross First Aid Course begins Wednesday evening at 8 30 at Clare High School in Singlish room. Dr F G Slattery leads a twenty hour program over five weeks with twice weekly two hour sessions on Wednesday and Thursday. Enrollment capped at twenty. overflow may form a second class.

Mrs Eva Schlafley Clare County AAA Field Woman spoke at the county office on a Chicago war briefing. She urged conserving labor and transport for food distribution and home canning to aid army and navy efforts and back farming with consumer support for victory.

St Henrys Plans Lent Novena At Rosebush Church

St Henrys Church Rosebush US 47 begins the Novena To The Crucified Savior at eight o clock on the first Friday of Lent February twentieth. The service continues each Friday through Lent ending Good Friday afternoon at 1 30. Congregational prayers hymns Way of the Cross Veneration of the Cross and benediction are included. The event featured music by Al Samborn and Keith Hunter, readings by Donnie Holbrook, and a keynote on biblical fatherhood focusing on Abraham Saul Jonathan and the bond with God.
