Michigan Audubon Society officials ask the state legislature to designate the Kirtland Warbler as state bird, arguing the rare jackpine songbird is unique to Michigan with only about 1000 remaining. The robin was official from 1931 after a large vote, but officials say modern wildlife interest supports a change.
