Holbrook Named Judge Subcommittee Chair In House

State Representative Donald E. Holbrook Jr. of Clare was named chairman of a special House Judiciary sub committee on District Courts and will serve on the House Labor Committee and the Judiciary Committee for the next two years. House leaders praised his work on the District Court Act and said the new panel will refine the lower court system as Michigan reorganizes its judiciary.

Clare PTA panel discusses school buses and safety

The January 20 Clare PTA meeting featured a panel of Richard Snyder Gary Rayburn and George Bradley plus bus drivers Barb Gibbs and Bill Brewer. They reviewed bus routes costs miles and safety emphasis while calling for community help and driver recruitment as Hemlock Street traffic concerns were raised.

Merit Tests At Clare High On Saturday

On Saturday February 15th ninth and tenth graders will take the annual National Development Test. The voluntary test compares local 9th and 10th graders with peers nationwide and guides those aiming for four year colleges. The National Merit Exam for juniors will be given the same day.

The Clare 4-H horse group Trail Blazers invites all interested to attend their first meeting on February 6 at Clare High School room 210. The gathering starts at 7 30 p.m. and attendees should enter via the north entrance.

Appreciation Night Honors Tom Bradley Former Clare City Commissioner

Tom Bradley received a city plaque at a Clare commission meeting honoring his service from 1964 to 1968. Mayor Willard Koch presented the citation and noted Bradley’s valued contributions to the city. The meeting also reviewed Sixcap plans to acquire surplus Air Force base equipment for local departments.

Clergyman and Wife Arrive Safely in Freetown West Africa

Rev Charles Hull and Emma Hull arrived in Freetown Sierra Leone on foreign service duty. They reached on January 21 after a quick trip once visas were approved and spent a night near Kennedy Airport watching the Presidential Inauguration on television.

February Clinic Dates Set in Clare and Harrison

The Health Department Child Clinic schedules sessions in Harrison on February 10 at the New County Building and in Clare on February 17 at the city hall. Both sessions run in the forenoon from 9 o clock.

Clare High Ski Team Ends Season With Third Place Finishes

Clare High School skiers placed third in both girls and boys divisions at a January meet against Manistee Cadil lac and Bellaire in Cadil lac. They also took third in a January 24 event against West Bloomfield Hills and Cadil lac and concluded with a February 3 meet at Bear Mt Grayling before regionals on February 14 in Traverse City. The team expresses pride in progress and anticipates future success.

Eagle Village Sale Benefits Eagle Village

Clare Rotary Kiwanis service clubs pledge proceeds from a White Elephant Sale to Eagle Village to fund facilities. The sale is February 22 with donations of saleable items accepted and pickup arranged. About 30 workers and volunteers from the clubs assist. calls to The Sentinel for donations.

Young ski racers attend four day Boyne Mountain camp

Roby Gershon, son of Dr and Mrs J R Gershon, among 157 Alpine Ski Racers from Regions III and IV Central Division USSA at Boyne Mountain. The event drew racers age 12 to 18 from Regions II and IV with no special groups and all eligible. Don Luther of Rochester notes invite follows last year results.
