Robert E. Jackson is named manager of corporate data processing at Dow Badische Co. in Williamsburg Virginia. A Clare native, he holds a math degree from Central Michigan University and has a history with Dow Chemical starting in 1960. He and his wife and three children live in Newport News Virginia.
John Armstrong of Clare Nursing Home received a stray young billy goat from Farwell main street residents. The goat wandered downtown dodging traffic after antlers were tied on as a prank. Chief Don Lloyd captured the animal and delivered it to Armstrong, who keeps it at his farm amid concern over abusing animals with wire or rope.
County Extension Agents remind farmers that starting January 1 youth under sixteen may not operate tractors or work around self unloading machinery and other hazardous tasks. The child labor rules exclude work on a family farm and supervised training may excuse certain students. A full list of hazardous jobs will be available at the Extension Office.
At the VFW Home in Eaton Rapids children received gifts from Holley Carburetor's Clare Aircraft Division. Marvin Gies led the annual drive with Clare VFW members packing and delivering toys last Friday. Post Commander James Corsant praised Gies and helpers including Joe Pudway and John McLaughlin for their efforts and Holley's generosity.
