Extension Director Schroeder resigns in Harrison for Africa post

Richard Schroeder, Clare County Extension Director, has resigned and accepted a senior position in Africa with the U.S. Agency for International Development. He plans to leave Harrison in about two weeks. Bette Marotzke will handle mail and calls during the transition.

Christmas Program At Junior High And High School

The F H A sponsored a Christmas program on Friday December 21 for grades ten to twelve in the morning and seven to nine in the afternoon. Students Duffey Doxdator Lytin Methntier Rox afine Schroeder Patty Case Lorretta Kleiner and Callab House performed readings and choirs of God. The band under Mr Brown played Christmas songs and exchange students led a panel on Christmas in their lands. Santa Claus visited and group singing closed the day. Earlier, on Wednesday December 19 Farwell FAA and FEA caroled from seven to nine with supervision by Mrs Most and Mr Rhoads.

Perfect 300 Rolled at Glare Alleys by Bob Shelander

Bob Shelander, son of owner Larry Shelander, bowled a perfect 300 at Glare Alleys while practicing. The score will not be sanctioned, but witnesses signed a storesheet and celebrated as if it were a formal match. It marks the first 300 on any Glare lane and the first by a Glare bowler, with prior perfects by Tom Jeredy and Omer Parent.

Truck Fire Damages Vehicle at Farm Home Site

A truck caught fire north of Rosebush near the farm home, burning severely. A welding spark reportedly caused the blaze, with no further property loss as the vehicle was towed into a field away from equipment and buildings.

Sally Alexander 25 died suddenly at home in Clare after a lengthy illness. She and husband worked with Michigan Bell Telephone. they had two daughters Susan 4 and Laurie. Born July 26 1937 in Flint she graduated Lincoln High School Farndale Hillsdale College married in 1957 Royal Oak joined Beta Sigma Phi. Funeral held Wednesday at Congregational Church conducted by Rev Van Parker.

Two Youths Injured In Clare Car Wreck

Two young men, Roberainik Krainik and Tim Smith, were seriously hurt when the auto they were driving left a country road and wrecked in a field near Clare on Saturday. Both were taken to Clare General Hospital. Krainik suffered a broken ankle and possible rib and chest injuries while Smith had a severe forehead cut and abrasions. They had left a party and were en route to bring sandwiches back to friends.

The Michilimacinac Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met on Tuesday evening December 18 with Mrs Joseph J Kennedy and Mrs Paul Schreiber as guests. Mrs A E Bartow led the business meeting. Mrs Ralph Scott gave the national defense report. Mrs Louis Gee presented a program on Valley Forge with slides depicting the winter quarters of General Washington and Continental Army hardships over Christmas, now Pennsylvania state park. January meeting will be at the home of Donald Holbrook honoring this year’s Good Citizens.
