Sunday Gas Availability in Clare Draws Mix of Open Stations
In Clare on Sunday nearly one third of 22 gasoline stations stayed open despite Nixon's volunteer shutdown call. Seven stations operated, with managers citing ongoing business, 24 hour service, and planned hours, while others anticipated closures due to supply and regulatory pressures. Local officials see federal requests but not mandates, with potential state powers to manage fuel distribution and possible future Sunday bans.
