December term of the Clare County Circuit Court convened at Harrison before Judge Hart with a large docket of criminal cases. Hoyt Holtzlander and Zenith Holtzlander pled guilty to breaking and entering and faced prison terms. Abraham Solomon pleaded guilty to simple assault and received sixty days. Elmer Utter pleaded guilty to incest and drew five to ten years. George Lumley’s case continued.

Mrs Elizabeth Rowland appeared before Judge Ray Hart in Harrison circuit court on a conspiracy charge tied to planning to kill or drown her two daughters Katherine Woodin and Virginia. Harrison mourns the sudden passing of Eilis George Hughes age 64 on November 28 1935 at his home. Born July 2 1871 in Plymouth Michigan he moved to Harrison as a boy and with twin Elmer opened Hughes Brothers general store forty seven years ago. Resettlement program aims to place 40 families on farms
Acting on instructions from Clare County Resettlement Office at Harrison, the program will take 40 families off welfare and set them up as self sustaining farmers. The County Welfare Commission will screen applicants, with the goal of giving families a real chance to return to farming. Small subsistence grants, followed by loans for livestock and equipment, will support initial transition, with farm management plans and close supervision. If clients fail to meet expectations they will be dropped from the program.
