Military Pay Bill Signed By Johnson
President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the 1964 Military Pay Bill in a White House ceremony on August 12. The $207.5 million measure raises pay for most armed forces from September 1, with a 2.5 percent across the board for officers and warrant officers and enlisted personnel with more than two years of service, plus an 8.5 percent boost for officers with less than two years. Enlisted men under two years receive no raise, as lawmakers cited training status and rapid rank advancement as justification.
