Slain man found in refrigerator spurs alarming recall petitions

The badly decomposed body of a white male was found stuffed in an abandoned refrigerator near Temple north of Harrison by mushroom hunters. Authorities believe the victim was shot multiple times. MSP Crime Lab investigated and body moved to the University of Michigan hospital for identification and cause of death. Separately, recall petitions target two Grant Township officials over disputed land use zoning and budget actions, with trustees Al Schumm and Ron Cooper named amid legal questions and municipal procedure concerns.

Harrison county sued over city sewage plant effects

Richard J. Newport and Margaret C. Newport of Grand Ledge sue the City of Harrison Clare County and state agencies in U S District Court and Clare County District Court for 200000 claiming the new sewage plant harms 65 lot Southwood subdivision by odor water issues leaving 58 unsold since 1974 and amounting to inverse condemnation and loss of property value.

Clare County Valuations Rise About Four Percent This Year

Clare County's State Equalized valuations total 189,571,028 in 1977, up from 181,985,899 in 1976, a gain of 7,531,139. The County Board approved the figures, which go to the State Tax Commission for final action. If the commission applies a factor, owners in Arthur and Freeman townships would see a 5.62 percent increase while other units stay at 1. Utilities account for a large share of filings, with total utility valuations in the county at 29,877,219 and nonutility totals by class listed. The county reports 30,306 real estate parcels, more than neighboring counties.

Blood Drive Upcoming at Clare Congregational Church

The Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit Clare on Monday May 2 from 12 noon to 6 PM at 110 West Fifth Street. The drive seeks 100 to 125 pints of blood and invites donors aged 17 to 65. All 17 year olds need written parental consent. no doctor’s permission required.

Hayes Township recall election set for May 3

Hayes Township residents will vote in a special recall to remove supervisor Theodore Ratchel and treasurer Angela Nowak.
