Funeral Held for John Freer in Bay City
John Freer born December 25 1860 in Hawley New York died April 18 1929 in Bay City aged 68. Three months and twenty four days. Freer entertained with song and dance early life then toured Michigan in minstrel vaudeville until last spring and ill health. He married twice first to Cora Cornell and later Mae D Stone. Survived by widow Joss son Floyd daughter Mrs Angus Patterson stepmother sister and brothers with services at Arthur Bellinger residence and Surrey cemetery burial.

Northward paving advances on U.S. 27 and surrounding projects
The State Administration Board authorized forty highway projects including major widening and graveling of U.S. 27 from Frederic to Grayling and from Grayling south for a total of fifteen and a half miles. Prison labor will pave segments from Mt. Pleasant to Shepherd and from Alma north to St. Louis, totaling eighteen and a half miles. Completion is planned for Mt. Pleasant to Lansing by year end with possible paving to Clare and Harrison next summer.

County Contests for Rural Pupils to Be Held in May
The sixth annual Spelling, Arithmetic, Penmanship and State Fair Boys' School Contests for Clare county will run May 16 and 17 at various state grade examination sites. Clare county weighs trout pond sites with federal help
W. W. Thayer of the U S Bureau of Fisheries visited Clare county with Supervisors Heber Carpenter and Hutchinson to inspect prospective trout pond locations. Clare Band Wins District Contest at Mt. Pleasant
The Clare high school band earned third place at Mt. Pleasant in Class C and will compete in the state finals at East Lansing after classification irregularities affected Lansing bands. The group, led by George Boyd, will travel to Lansing with local community support for the finals. A dress rehearsal is planned next Tuesday at 8:00 PM with 20 cent admissions for adults and 10 cents for children.

Ruin From Natural Disasters and Quarrying Rebuilds Ancient Colosseum
Severe lightning strikes and earthquakes are blamed for early ruin of the city in the sixth century. The Colosseum and other large structures were half buried after repeated damage. Many medieval passages were later built from its stones by those who treated the Colosseum as a quarry.
