The Clare High School Drama Class begins preparations for The Music Man by Meredith Willson. Students rehearse under drama instructor Forrest Meek with Wilma Hipkins as student director as plans progress.
First Savings of Saginaw announces a Clare branch with a temporary office at 544 West Fifth Street and plans a modern permanent building at 806 McEwan Street. Roger B. Premo will manage the Clare operation after relocating from Saginaw. Construction begins this summer with completion slated for early 1972.
County Board approves a 1972 proposed expenditure of 1 084 046 34 and forwards it to the Tax Allocation Board while divisions of the 15 mill county wide winter tax are debated. Sheriff and patrol and delinquent tax revolving fund figures show large increases for next year.
Grant Township officials discuss merging garbage collection with Clare City to share a 104 acre dump site. Grant licenses its site through Sept 1, while Clare faces penalties for dumping into water. A Reed City contractor proposal is debated against city operation costs and property tax impact. A rifle range plan, mutual fire aid, and Woodlawn drainage petition are also noted.
Mayor Koch encores after re election at Clare City Commission meeting Monday. Commissioners Robert Walters and C. J. Allen were sworn in, while incumbent Charles Clark, not present, will be sworn in later.
A proposed 11.5 million plan to build sewer and water facilities in 13 Clare County areas was outlined at a Harrison meeting. George Justus said federal grants could cut local costs, with bonds via special assessment districts backed by the county. The plan targets inland lake communities and summer cottages convert to year round occupancy, over a 20 to 25 year repayment period.
