Easter Holy Week Services Across Clare Area Churches

Stores close 12 noon to 3 p.m. Good Friday for services. Clare churches including United Methodist Nazarene Assembly of God Church of Christ and others schedule Maundy Thursday Holy Week events. Highlights include the Clare Congregational service at 1:30 p.m. April 16 with Rev. Palmounter and post service fellowship, Sunrise and Easter services, gospel concert, and radio broadcast of St. John Lutheran Holy Week rites.

Farwell Area Schools Board Sets Special Meeting

The Farwell Area Schools Board of Education will hold a special meeting on Monday night April 19 in the high school cafeteria at 8 00 p m. Citizens may discuss school finance for the coming years including millage programs and the impact of state aid and valuation on the 1976 77 budget.

Red Cross Bloodmobile Headed to Clare on April 19

The Clara Chapter of the Red Cross will host a blood drive in Clare on Monday April 19 from 12 noon to 6 p.m. at the Clare Congregational. The drive targets 125 pints toward a county quota of 530 pints and notes a special need for negative blood types.

Clare chamber reports Irish theme profits and plans

The Clare Chamber of Commerce reports a 1,444,730 profit from this year’s Irish theme promotion with funds placed in a dedicated account for next year. The group plans May meetings and notes July Fourth sidewalk sale events, an arts and crafts show, and various parade invitations while monitoring land deals near US-27 and US-10 for possible industrial use.

Free glaucoma tests offered in Clare and Farwell

Free eye examinations are available in Clare through April 22 on a 9 am to 4 pm schedule and 1 pm to 8 pm on Tue Thu at Clare city hall with 386 7582. Farwell hosts tests April 26 30 at the United Methodist Church with the same hours, 478 8331 for appointments. 200 Clare County residents were screened in Harrison March 29 April 9. 5 suspected glaucoma cases were referred to ophthalmologists.

Bicycle Safety Day Invites Area Students at Clare High

Fourth through sixth graders from the area are invited to a Bicycle Safety Day on April 24 in the Clare High School multipurpose room. From 9 to 11:30 a.m. participants will be tested on riding skills and safety knowledge and have their bicycles inspected. The event is organized by Walter H. Kleiner of Modern Woodmen of America, endorsing bicycle safety with support from the Bicycle Institute of America.
