Building code clash at Clare County hearing on county ordinance
A Friday hearing in Harrison before a subcommittee of the Clare County Planning Commission examined a proposed building code. Resort developers Lee Swallow and James Hamp urged no county level restrictions, while officials said the ordinance would regulate quality, lot size, subdivision rules, health and safety standards, and zoning to guide orderly growth and protect tourist resources. James S. Bicknell III argued current state law may cover goals, with enforcement the issue, as developers advocate letting townships decide.
