A Clare survey shows residents know little about what is taught who runs the schools or school finances. The Sentinel and Clare Public Schools will run a series on School Growth Enrollment Costs and more to inform the public.
About fifty attendees gathered Tuesday evening at Clare High School to organize a boys baseball league. Superintendent Thomas Campbell praised the effort. Jeff Willey Sr and Charles Cooper led organizing work. Sponsors needed include one or two more, with eight teams total. next sponsor and managers meeting set for Monday April 12 at 7 30 p m at Clare High School. Class C Softball League discussion also invited.
Mrs. Marie Wilson of Find lay Ohio recalls past living conditions and prices from early housekeeping to modern homes. She notes rent from 4 dollars to 7.50, a horse-drawn Main Street, a hospital private room at 25 a week, and personal memories of family life and fashion change.
Clare county's American Cancer Society chapter launched a month long drive to raise funds. Mrs William Kirkpatrick chairs the effort and will oversee canister and poster distribution in towns including Lake George area with Mrs Basil Baker as chairman there. A door to door canvass and rural area outreach are planned to broaden cancer literature distribution.
A notice reminds Clare’s Gold Star Mothers that their Department President Mrs. Gertrude Williams of Kala-Piazoo will attend the regular meeting at the American Legion room city hall on April 7 at 8 p.m. Mrs. Ina Hammond urges all members to attend.
A full house is expected for the Congregational Men's Fish Fry in the church basement Claré tonight. Serving begins at 6 o clock with Blue Water Cod fillets and a full cod menu available.
Clare High School Dramatics Class members attended several one act performances from Central Michigan College during the week. Philip Van Every, a 1953 Clare graduate, acted in When the Sun Rises. Other plays included Bedside Manners Opening Night and The Monkey's Paw.
VFW and Auxiliary units from Pettit Kapplinger post Clare plan a joint installation at Clare city hall on April 8 at 8 pm. Bob Rowley to become commander. Clarice Bellows to lead the Auxiliary. An installation team from Midland post will assist, then social hour at VFW Hall with refreshments.
A resident reports seeing 25 to 30 robins in her yard on a mild Tuesday and notes flocks of ten or twelve birds suggesting spring arrival.
Clare hosts Pageant The Story Of Faster Palm Sunday April 11 eight PM in Clare High School Auditorium repeated Good Friday April 16 eight fifteen PM at Warriner Auditorium Central Michigan College Mt Pleasant. Pageant written by H R Evans features a 60 voice chorus directed by Harry B Dice with Doris Gerow organist.
Clare school instrumental soloists and groups directed by Lloyd Conley performed for the Rotary Club on Wednesday. Performances included Jan Schaeffer and John Akins solos and a saxophone quartet. The club announced a new award for Clare High School's outstanding fourth year band member.
The 25th anniversary Michigan FFA convention was held March 24 26 at the MSC campus in East Lansing. Clare sent two delegates Myron Davis and Russell Allen and Norris Bay Jake Miller and Leo Smith earned the State Farmer award on Thursday. Contests in parliamentary procedure Farm Forum public speaking and demonstrations occurred Wednesday with the awards ceremony on Thursday morning followed by a pageant on FFA history.
Household Appliances Clare announces a local three day all expenses paid trip to New York City as the grand prize during a April sales event. Registration is required in store with 18 plus eligibility and no purchase needed. The promotion runs April 1 to 3 amid appliance demonstrations and additional free prizes.

William H. Barber, son of Mr and Mrs Dale Barber of Clare, is promoted to cadet second lieutenant in the Army ROTC announced by the commanding officer of Michigan College of Mining and Technology. Barber, a senior in chemical engineering, is a member of Delta Sigma Pi fraternity.

Clare Furniture offers three free Herculite chairs to ad holders. The Vogue Shop starts Business Adjustment sale with 6500 mail circulars. Ideal Theatre screens CinemaScope adding family visits. Groceries and foods reduce prices as well.
Marble's 2796 team opens strong in Clare Bowling Alleys led by Frances Bolle with a 547 score and a 2796 series beating last year's winning mark by 18 pins. Clare Mfg. Co. Bowlerettes stand second at 2768 with Dorothy Ashcraft and Kennie Hamp leading doubles at 12154 and Marty Sullivan top singles at 602. Theo Spenny, Dorothy Ashcraft, and Bonnie Bauder posted notable scores as four teams remain plus two Sundays to finish the event.
Clare firemen finished a two day inspection of downtown commercial buildings to root out hazards. Chief Stanley Parish reported complete satisfaction with results and praised business cooperation. Firemen urged cleanliness and cautioned against unattended fires amid dry weather.
