Carl Goetz, member of Local 1728 United Steelworkers, wins the invitational roundabout in the Ohio River Regatta with his boat The Victory. He built the craft from Thanksgiving 1941, devoting 700 hours to its speed, and after waxed prep he overcame a 500 yard early deficit to finish about 100 yards ahead, earning a gold trophy for his first official race victory.
