Insurance Agents Debate Negotiations At Large Local Meeting
Local 32 of the United Office and Professional Workers held a major meeting last week to review progress with Prudential Metropolitan and John Hancock on bargaining terms. Metropolitan’s refusal to meet the national negotiating committee sparked widespread interest, described by President Elmer Martin as the largest and most active meeting in the local’s history. Prudential agreed to a commission change favoring agents on policies over 2000, boosting commissions 10 to 25 percent, while John Hancock has yielded some concessions in New York discussions. Herman Kabakoff will travel to Cleveland this week to report back on demands to Cincinnati John Hancock agents.
