Ohio Ballot Should Not Be Changed, Hartmann Says

The Cincinnati Joint Board of Amalga mated Clothing Workers met on September 12 and heard Arthur Hartmann oppose changes to the Ohio election ballot. He accused Taft and big business of disenfranchisement through a Massachusetts style ballot and noted Bender’s public claims of swinging 100,000 votes. Hartmann also reported slow clothing market activity and the decision not to purchase an assessed building. Paul Horton will resign as Joint Board president. O. H. Schneider was elected new president. Local reports from locals 155 189 200 and 241 were read and approved.

UAW Endorses British Labor Welfare Policy Amid Critics

The United Auto Workers CIO endorses Britain's social welfare program as a defense against U.S. critics. The UAW argues big business and the press attack Britain’s social legislation to undermine American democracy. It lauds Britain's unemployment, health, and old age insurance and nationalization of key industries as measures benefiting 49 million Britons, warning against a class-war propaganda campaign.
