Union Signs Cance Contract Along Fact Finder Lines

In Cincinnati the United Steelworkers of America and American Can Company reached a nationwide agreement just before the October 1 strike deadline. Negotiations began December 19 at the Hotel Linton, with a 30-member union committee and a 9-man company committee. The pact covers 15,000 workers across 28 plants and introduces a company financed pension plan. Beginning October 1, wages will be set by a joint union company committee, with the plan details administered by the same body. Insurance meanwhile costs about 5 cents per employee, per this settlement surpassing the fact finder report. The contract runs to March 15, 1950, with pension protections until 1951 and insurance until 1952.
